State Sales Tax Deductions: The state sales tax deduction for Washington residents is poised for another two-year extension, saving the average family $600 per year.

House Takes Up Senate-Passed Tax Break Package: Major tax legislation that would save 20 million people from the clutches of the alternative minimum tax and renew dozens of popular tax breaks for businesses and individuals is being taken up in the House, where its fate is uncertain.

Work-Life Issues: Given that Congress has only two weeks left before it goes on recess in order to campaign, it’s highly unlikely that any action will be taken this year on these issues, with the possible exception of a bill to provide paid parental leave to federal employees.
